Survivor - Fans Vs Favorites - Another Reality Rip Off?

Fans of Survivor the hit TV reality show have been put in competition with past seasons most controversial competitors. You might think this is a totally original idea but, its been done before (okay well not exactly).

This idea has been used on another reality TV series before. If you guys are familiar with MTVS The Real World and Road Rules you would be familiar with the challenge series that is now featured on MTV. This show is a reality competition where you have your favorites from both series going against each other in various challenges and eliminations much like the show Survivor. A few years ago this series brought in new competition never before seen on reality TV. They had the fans against the favorites from past seasons of the challenge series. Sound familiar?

It seems that Survivor has taken some ideas from this series and incorporated it into their own hit TV series. Whats very LOL about all of this is the fact that these new competitors believe they have a leg up on the competition because they have seen the past seasons. I would go as far to say that is a very stupid and shortsighted idea. In the big picture whats going to matter the most early on is being able to survive the conditions. Since the tribes are split into 2 as usual, the connections between the fans and the favorites is very limited. None of their knowledge of the favorites will matter until the merge and by then basic survival skills will matter the most, staying in the game longer. Once the merge happens it will be as it has been in the past, numbers always count in your favor. Knowing a little about the history of the favorites will help very little since winning the challenges will put them @ a larger number for the merge. Once that happens the fans better hope they luck out on solo challenges. Even then the favorites have a leg up because they have been thru it before and they have proven to know how to deal with those tough situations.

All in all I think this will be a good season to watch for the LOL factor because we get to see the drama between favorites from different seasons. I dont find any of the new fans very interesting. Thankfully for me, Mikey B. who had shown to be very very prejudice early on with anti-gay remarks is gone and thats a plus. I also dont know how Chet the gay survivor made it onto the show. He doesnt seem to care much about anything, @ least not from the way they are portraying him on the TV show currently.

We will have to see where this goes but I was expecting a much newer, fresher idea from the minds over @ Survivor. I guess I will have to watch this filler and hope for the best next season.

Gay People On Youtube!

So whats the hot topic this month on the "tubes"? Gay people and how they have to deal with homophobia in their comments section.

I know first hand what its like to deal with homophobia, I have dealt with it my entire adult life. I use to be very thin skinned about it and I would even be the first to stand up @ the smallest sign of it. I learned a long time ago that not every comment with the term "gay" in it is a sign of homophobia. Pop culture has allowed a lot of changes in dialect, words that mean one thing can mean a dozen other things. Unfortunately for us, the word "gay" has been changed not only to describe a homosexual man or a happy person, but its also been changed into an insult intended to belittle a person. For the gay community this is hard to understand, I mean is the word "gay" even suppose to be insulting when referring to a homosexual?

If someone came up to me and said "You're gay!" I would feel as if they just learned how to properly observe someones behavior. I wouldn't consider that an insult @ all. Most of the negative comments found on these videos are pointing out the obvious, that isn't offensive to me. Now lets take it a step further, the word "fag" has been used in both an insulting and endearing way. People that don't like gay men have used the word fag to describe them, as an insult. When gay men get together they use the word loosely, as a sign of brotherhood. This is the same dilemma as the African-American community and the use of some derogatory terms within their own culture.

So where do we draw the line? Do we stay its ok for this person to say it but its not ok for the other person? Who makes up their mind about this? How does the law feel about it? These are all questions we need to ask ourselves.

Ghost Hunters International Is WIN For Me!

Anyone that is a fan of the paranormal is familiar with the hit TV show Ghost Hunters that comes on the Sci Fi channel, if you dont know about it you have been living under a rock for the last 3 years.

The original show stars Jason Hawes & Grant Wilson. Together they formed T.A.P.S (the Atlantic paranormal society), this is the foundation of the show. I have loved this show since I saw the first season and I have even got to know Grant outside of the TV personality, he is a great guy and very talented in other fields. The show has been pretty controversial since its popularity has grown. People in the field that are either jealous or have personal issues with the stars of the show have claimed everything from doctored images to production created hoaxes. No matter how serious you are about the field, it always leaves room for skeptics and thats just the way of the beast.

The success of the show has lead to several other shows even on other networks that follow the formula or try to gain success using similar styles and ideals. The most recent and most successful is the direct spin-off series, Ghost Hunters International. The case is made up of veteran TAPS members Brain Harnois, Donna LaCroix & Andy Andrews. I was never a big fan of Andy, I didnt really like his approach to the cases on Ghost Hunters however I think that was just due to the personalities of the other members. He doesnt seem to clash quite as much with the current cast which also includes a familiar face from Ghost Hunters, Barry Fitzgerald and newcomers to the TV series Robb Demarest & Shannon Sylvia. I didnt really like Robb's style of leadership on the first episode and I was bent on just flat out hating the show. I went ahead and kept watching, mostly because I am a TV junkie for stuff like this lol, and I started to enjoy the show. The show has a much more laid back approach to situations, and that was what I hated so much in the first episode. I was so use to how tight Grant & Jason run the ship and to see them cutting up and not being quite as serious I was turned off a bit. However it works with this cast.

The reason I would suggest to keep watching the show is for a few reasons. First and foremost its a good filler between the regular Ghost Hunters season. We all enjoy the original and when it was on downtime I always sat around wanting more ghost hunts on TV and NOT reruns. Second reason, Brian is always fun. Even when he made big mistakes on the regular series I always thought he had the "clown factor". He was fun to laugh @ even if you were frustrated. The final reason is WHY NOT? LOL. There is nothing else on TV even as good as this show during that time slot. I dont know what will happen when American Idol goes up to its typical 2 hour airing but we will see. I will still record this on my DVR and watch later.

This show is WIN, and I will do more detailed reviews each week as it airs, stay tuned and keep it movin!
